iphone 3gs help needed please

Hi to all again,
i have a friend who i sold my ip3gs to, its on firmware 4.3.5,model MC637b & version 05.16.02
is it possible to upgrade the phone to 5.0.1 and jailbreak it, then unlock it on whatever firmware it will be on after the upgrade?

I believe you will be able to jailbreak it without issues. I am not sure about the unlock though.
