Kudos on making a theme free before you plan on charging ... I like to see people "earn their way" if you may.

Too many poor designers have uploaded crap works and set a price tag on em... It's bad for the community and it helps contribute to cluttering up Cydia with more pointless junk.

Slate said it best. We are an open-source community. It's just the way it goes. You have to take the bad with the good in our community. Piracy has been and always will be a primary reason people jailbreak their devices. It was silly to think it wouldnt happen within the community itself. I remember the days before the "paid" scene with cydia (which may date back to the days of Installer, and even before Rock..) it was a much more peaceful community back then. I understand developers and great themers wanting to get paid for their work, but it has caused a lot of backlash all over the scene. However, C'est La Vie, i suppose. Like I said, thats how the community was started.

The whole Pirate thing is annoying but there isn't much that can be done about it. its like this with anything digital from themes to programs. try not to think about it and whatever you do don't look at the downloads. people shouldn't even be downloading from those shit fuck pirates to try a 2 or 3 dollar theme. give me a break if 3 bucks is that big a deal then you shouldn't have an iphone.

It was tried (mostly threatened) and yes had some moderate success - some themes have never seen the dark side others get a few weeks grace period if you may. A few did the CW but apparently did it wrong? I dunno - honestly I thought if it was created by the designer he had designer copywrite or something like that already but apparently that's not true either. It sucks fellas plain and simple but not too much we can do about it.

I try not to focus on the bad areas of this whole scene, it'll drive me bonkers if I do. Occasionally I slip up and have a rant but I feel that just shows passion. Lmao meh

Another way to think about it is the fact that you're not really out all that money because the people that pirated the theme never would have bought it. Also that someone probably had to pay for it to post it on pirate places. And still all those people LIKE your theme, if nobody bothered to even download it off pirate sites you'd have to realize your theme wasn't that good. I try really hard to not let it bother me and be thankful for the people who actually did pay for my theme.
